The optional client patches is a light-weight method for us to fix client issues, where there is only client code involved and not coordinated client/server changes.
It takes us 1 minute and 6 seconds to build an optional client patch (since we are only packaging the Python code) and the deployment is extremely light-weight. By comparison, a full client patch takes about 4 hours to build and deployment involves a lengthy download and patch testing process.

No, this 3rd optional client patch is an inclusive client hotfix that includes all fixes from #1 and #2 and fixes the remaining problems stemming from Tyrannis 1.1.

This, but kudos to CCP on rapid patch fixing
You rarely see this since we don't update the patch notes (which we really should do so you are informed) but we normally hotfix the server once or twice a week, every week with all sorts of performance fixes and bug fixes. It just so happens that we are concentrating on the client at the moment, hence the flurry of fixes that are very visible to you.

The schedule called for TQ to be opened at 13:40 GMT. The issue was raised to Software at 12:29 GMT and had been fixed and ported for release at 15:06 GMT. It was a very tricky issue with three different components colliding to produce a crash, which is very rare.
TQ opened at 18:46 GTM and in between we rebuilt the client (binaries, installers and patches), uploaded, and download and patch tested.

Originally by: kudak'etan I have been playing eve since 2005 and I have never once seen an optional patch been deployed and have also never seen any post patch fixes being introduced so closely to the original patch release.
Can you please reveal????
1. Have you developed a new patch routine for releases for quick fixes? 2. Have you increased your workload to much to handle? 3. Are you rushing your patches for competition reasons?
I love eve, don't kill it, I have never seen eve released into such a untested state, why are you having to release inncentives for players to log into the test server, are you having issues testing your own releases???
Can't pull wool over my eyes so tell me why so dramatically different to my previous 5 years of playing?
We initially developed the optional client hotfix system in Oct 2007 and iterated on it in Jan 2008. We have used it since then when it's appropriate.
We can only use it if the changes we are making are completely separated stand-alone client changes on one hand and stand-alone server changes on the other. As soon as there is a single coordinated client/server change then we have to go for a full patch.
When we have to use a full patch then we tend to hold off on the client changes and accumulate the fixes into a larger patch, due to the overhead. With the optional client hotfixes we release often, as soon as there are tested fixes ready.

I don't consider a polite "STFU" as valid reply to obvious case for degraded functionality. (May also add "Sorry, but ..." in front of it, if you feel offended) Bughunter was able to confirm and reproduce the issue (at the time of submission), but he didn't do anything, instead he claimed that degraded functionality is intended move.
It is intended design and the response from the bug hunter is correct.
Try it in Windows, double clicking in the column headers in Windows Explorer will change the sort order. What you should in EVE (as in Windows) is to double click on the column separators in between the column headers. That will resize the column to the left of the cursor. You will find EVE and Windows to behave the same way.

*Shakes shoulders* I'm not doing anything special. Just step-by-step executing the reproduction steps from my bugreports.
No, I read your bug reports; there is tremendous detail missing compared to what I saw in the video. For example, for the auto-resize issue you are experiencing then in the video you change the column order.
BTW, I tried this again and I still can't reproduce this. But details are key so that we can reproduce the issues and perhaps I overlooked something in the video that the programmers will spot.

After a review of your video: You open the market window, rearrange the columns and then you manually resize the price column. Manually resizing the column turns off auto resizing. That's nothing new, it was like that before Tyrannis 1.1. Your bug report went from Not Reproducible to By Design.

Are you going to go for optional patch #4 now CCP? Maybe if you actually tested these patches BEFORE releasing them we wouldn't need so damm many of them.
You are completely misunderstanding how the optional patches work and how we hotfix the client (and the server). We release hotfixes as soon as they are ready. So when the first batch of fixes was ready we released client hotfix #1, when the second batch was ready then we released client hotfix #2 that included all the fixes from #1 as well, and so on and so forth.
I can fully understand the complaints about what we broke in the UI refactoring in Tyrannis 1.1. But I don't understand why you want us to wait until every single issue is fixed and then release a big patch. Why don't you want to get the fixes as soon as they are ready?

Evemail never works for me since the hotixes( ok suppose that's been broken since 1.1, not sure). Enter and delete warp/split sentences to another location. CTRL+V or righ-click-copy a killmail will copy the entire killmail except for the last 10 odd characters regardless of the size of the killmail.

I apologize if you took my reply personal. I meant no disrespect; however, you have to agree that just because EVE-Mail works on your test/development clients does not mean that it will work on ours.
So when you said, "And EVE Mail and Copy/Paste are not broken" I took it as dismissing the problem with, "working as intended" and took offence. (Not to mention I was still on troll mode )
Anywho, a fine gentleman, by the name of CCP Stillman, is working with me to try to reproduce the issue. This is a tuff issue to nail down and reproduce so i will be working closely with Stillman to try to get it reproduced on your end.
I'm always happy to see the devs talking directly to the public and I hope that our little spat does not deter you from doing so more often.
Thank you, I have every confidence that you and CCP Stillman can figure this out. (BTW, I was testing using my TQ client with client hotfix #3, not a dev client in a test environment.)

After the 4th patch (pending) then the following should happen:
Every station container (and other similar containers) should open in its last known position; the window location will be stored for each container.
Wreck/loot containers should open in the last position that any such container was opened in; the window location will be stored globally for wreck/loot containers.

You are mistaken saying "And EVE Mail and Copy/Paste are not broken.".
You later expand about you not being able to reproduce the issue but with the above statement talked as an absolute, you don't encourage people to keep bug hunting.
If I would accept the statement "EVE Mail is broken" as an absolute then (1) no one would be able to write, send or receive EVE Mails and (2) no one would keep bug hunting for the specific issues that we are looking for. Same for Copy/Paste.
But they both work in general and there are edge cases that we are trying to figure out.

Hi CCP Explorer, does this change also include the wreck window size? It's more annoying that each wreck window size resets to a size that can only fit 2 icons in it, then the position resetting IMHO. For each wreck I have to resize, than select all then move the loot. It is more mouse-work to do the same thing as it did pre-patch.

I think we are playing a game of semantics here. We, the players, use the word "broken" in the context that eve-mail is not working in a intuitive and consistent manner.
You use "broken" in the literal since, as if EVE-Mail is completely unusable.
It is true that you can still send mail and compose short messages without too much trouble; however, if you try to compose a complex message and use copy & past for editing, it is "broken"! This is because EVE-Mail does not function consistently when using copy & paste functions as compared to before the patch. (Issue is still present in the 3rd optional patch)
Yes, I use "broken" in the literal sense, in particular if there are no details on how it is broken or what parts of it are broken.
We are still trying to find what, when and how issues arise in EVE Mail.

But they both work in general and there are edge cases that we are trying to figure out.
It's always nice to agree to disagree!
It is hard to describe the issue due to the inconsistent nature of the problem; however, I found a good description of most of the issues with in-game EVE-Mail found HERE.
I hope it helps.
